【原创】开天辟地－古代成语故事英译1

Pan Gu,Creator of the Universe In the remotest time, the universe, in the shape of an egg,was a big black mass of gases, in which Pan Gu the Creator was conceived and raised. 18 000 years passed before this murky blend underwent any change, but in it Pan Gu was growing to maturity. Finally he woke up and found himself in pitch darkness, which made him fly into a rage.Snatching a huge axe, with a heavy stroke he split the "Big Egg" in hafl. Wild storms rose and swept over the primitive world in all directions. The universe boomed and shook. Everything began to circle, separate,then reform. Light, clear gases floated upwards to mould the heaven, while weightier, impure gases sank condensed to make the earth. From then on, the sky grew 12 feet higher every day, the earth 12 feet thicker, and Pan Gu,12 feet taller. Thus another 18 000 years elapsed, and Pan Gu turned out to be a giant thousands of miles tall, with his feet on the ground and head propping the sky, so that it would never fall down. Man's history began henceforth. 开天辟地 远古时期，整个宇宙好像是一个大鸡蛋，由一大团昏暗的气体组成。开天辟地的盘古就在其中孕育成长。 一万八千年过去了，宇宙间什么变化也没有发生，可是盘古却在里面长大成人了。终于，他睁开了眼睛，却发现周围是一片漆黑。他怒不可遏，抓起一把大斧头，用力一挥，把这个“大鸡蛋” 劈成了两半。 一时间，风暴从四面八方席卷这个太古世界。宇宙颤抖着，隆隆作响。万物都在旋转、分离，然后重新组合。清轻之气上升，形成了天空，重浊之气下沉，凝结成大地。 从此，天每日长高一丈，地增厚十尺，盘古也随着长高长大。又过了一万八千年，盘古成了身高万仞，顶天立地的巨人，支撑着天空，使天不会掉下来。 人类的历史就从此开始了。 夸父逐日－古代成语故事英译2 Kuafu Runs after the Sun In very very ancient times, there was a strong man named Kuafu who cherished the ambition of running a race against the sun. Every day the sun rises in the east, travels across the sky and then goes down below the western horizon. From where does it come to visit the world and in which place does it hide itself? Kuafu resolved to find the answer to this riddle. So fast did he dash in the direction of the sun, that,after some time, he he was obviously approaching his object. But the closer he got to the sun, the more burning his thirst became. He looked round, and, to his delight, saw the rivers Huanghe and Weihe, with their jolly waves yelling for him. He plunged into the rivers and drained them at a gulp. But even this did not suffice. He turned to run northward, intending to reach the Great Lake for more water. It was a pity that before he got there, he died of thirst. Falling down, he threw away his walking stick and it became a grove of green peach-trees, bringing benefit to younger generations. 夸父逐日 很久很久以前，有一个身强力壮的人，名叫夸父。夸父心怀奇志，决心和太阳赛跑，追上太阳。每天，他看见旭日东升，横过天空，又落在西边地平线之下。它从哪儿来到这个世界？晚上又藏到什么地方去了呢？夸父立志要解开这个谜。 他向太阳跑过去。不久，显然已经逐渐地靠近太阳了。可是，离太阳越近，干渴也就越是像火一样灼烧着他的喉咙。 他看看周围，发现了黄河和渭河，它们那欢快的波浪仿佛在向他召唤。他非常高兴，跃身河中，一口气就把黄河水和渭河水都喝干了。可是他感到还不解渴。又往北方跑，想到大湖里去喝水。不幸还没来得及赶到大湖，就在途中渴死了。临死之前，他把手杖一丢，手杖变成了绿郁郁的一片桃林，为子孙后代留下了福荫之地。 [ Last edited by telomerase on 2009-2-26 at 12:53 ] |
