I can understand your suffering. I can't also sleep well under the bright light . when I was in college I also met this situation,one of roommates was used to sleep late. I told her my suffering,  later, she used a little dest lamp and  I bought a piece of cloth to hang on my bed. Thus situation was better, and I can sleep well.
In all, when you meet contradiction with others, it is important to understand and communicate well each other.

My roommate also sits up to the night, with lights off, the computer running or the cell phone working. These sometimes will not influence my sleep. It depends. However, I sympathize with you.
