After my initial appointment as an assistant professor in chemistry, I agreed to teach an introductory class on nanoscience and nanotechnology for incoming graduate students and upper level undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. However after accepting this task, it quickly became apparent to me that there were few resources available for teaching such a class, let alone any textbook.
