Transition metal oxides (TMOs) are promising anode materials for high-performance LIBs owing to their high theoretical capacity (500~1000 mAh g-1) that is based on a novel reaction mechanism 2y Li+ + 2y e- + MexOy → x Me + y Li2O. However, they show poor cycling performance because they have low electrical conductivity and cannot maintain their integrity over several discharge/charge cycles. Recent efforts including fabrication of nanosized TMOs, preparation of film architecture, and combining TMOs with matrix phase have been demonstrated to largely improve the electrochemical performance of TMOs. We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the charge/discharge mechanism of TMOs and the development of strategies to enhance the electrochemical performance of TMOs. We are particularly interested in articles describing the electrochemical performance and charge/discharge mechanism of new kinds of metal oxides such as multielement metal oxides; new insights into the influencing factors of electrochemical performance of TMOs; facile and new preparation method. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:Recent developments in the application of TMOs in LIBsNew and facile methods to fabricate nanosized TMOs for LIBsNew insight into the effect of size, component, morphology, and architecture of electrode on the electrochemical performance of TMOsFabrication and electrochemical performance research of TMOs composite architectureStructure optimization of TMOs as anode for LIBs Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jnm/guidelines/.
