Knowledge, experience & capabilities Critical knowledge • Understanding of the scientific research environment in China • Syngenta’s scientific and business activities, and how China fits into the global picture • An excellent internal network within Syngenta R&D and into the business • A broad external network of relevant potential partners Critical experience • PhD with at least 10 years post doctoral experience in the crop protection field • Good publication record • Experience in working with external partners • Leadership of major projects • Experience living and working in China would be an advantage Critical Skills & Capabilities • Open personality, good at linking people together • High energy, action oriented • Excellent communication skills • High level of scientific credibility inside and outside Syngenta • Prioritisation and multi-tasking • Networking and relationship development • Ability to search for and identify potential solutions for Syngenta’s technical needs • Ability to rapidly judge the quality and potential strategic value of a technology • The ability to speak both English and Mandarin fluently is essential • Ability to solve problems, resolve issues and drive results to challenging deadlines • Lateral thinking, with the ability to identify and exploit relevant developments in technology white spaces • Ability to function effectively in the different cultural environments in the region Critical leadership capabilities Focuses energy on must-wins 1.
