Assistant Professor Position in Computational and Theoretical Solid Mechanics
The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Rhode Island has an opening at the Assistant Professor level for an outstanding individual with demonstrated expertise and research potential in Advanced Computational/Theoretical Solid Mechanics, and is seeking an exceptional person who will be expected to become an international leader in this field. This is an academic year, tenure-track position, beginning January 2013. Outstanding candidates may be considered for the Carroll D. Billmyer Professorship in Mechanical Engineering. The successful candidate will join an already strong solid mechanics program, and will be expected to establish a nationally recognized research program by applying various cutting edge computational modeling schemes in one or more areas such as: micro, nano and atomistic simulations; multi-scale modeling; materials under extreme environments including high temporal and spatial resolutions; biomechanics. The candidate will also be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Mechanical Engineering.

The required qualifications are: (1) a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely-related field, and (2) a demonstrated proven track record of scholarly activity in Computational/Theoretical Solid Mechanics including journal publications and technical presentations.
