The scientific activities of the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (Prof. G. Cuniberti), Institute of Materials Science, are focused on developing non conventional strategies for novel materials and devices with intrinsic nanoscale complexity. At the Chair of Materials of Science and Nanotechnology are open to work on the theory of the electronic and electrical transport properties of functionalized nanoparticle networks and in the field of molecular cellular automata the following positions are available from 01.10.2012 2 Members of academic staff / Postdoctoral Fellows and 1 PhD student The PhD student will be for 36 months, the Postdoctoral positions for 15 months and 36 months, respectively. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG) respectively. Payment is according to the nationally agreed scale TV-L. All positions are embedded in the joint simulation and experimental European Projects "Synaptic Molecular Networks for Bio-inspired Information Processing" (SYMONE) and Molecular Architectures for QCA-inspired Boolean Networks (MOLARNET). Tasks: The general aim is to explore the use of self-assembled networks of nanoscale non-linear components (SYMONE) and of molecular based quantum cellular automata (MOLARNET) for unconventional information processing. The unconventional aspects of information processing involve the flow of information via nearest neighbor interactions through locally connected networks of non-linear molecular scale elements: switches, memristors, etc. More specifically, the work will address the electronic properties and electrical response properties of two-dimensional nanoparticle networks, the computer-based optimization of the molecular linkers, and the optimization of individual cells in quantum cellular automata. The successful candidates will be working in close collaboration with experimental and theoretical partners in Sweden, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Israel and are also expected to build intense collaborations within our chair. A close collaboration with the Exzellenzcluster "Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden" is desirable. Requirements: The candidates with excellent university degree (and doctorate for Post-Docs), at best in physics, chemistry or materials science background, are expected to have expertise on density functional methods and Green function techniques for quantum transport calculations. A working knowledge of classical molecular dynamics simulations and experience in code development will be very strong pluses. We target at top-notch dedicated and proactive young scientists with excellent communication and writing skills in English who plan to make their mark in science. Please visit http://nano.tu-dresden.de/ for more information on our activities. Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to disabled people. Applicants should send their application documents, including a letter of motivation, Curriculum Vitae with the complete publication record in the form of a ResearcherID link, and two reference letters until 30 August 2012 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) to TU Dresden, Fakultaet Maschinenwesen, Institut fuer Werkstoffwissenschaft, Professur fuer Materialwissenschaft und Nanotechnik, Herrn Prof. Dr. Gianaurelio Cuniberti, 01062 Dresden, Germany or as a single pdf file to jobs@nano.tu-dresden.de, Subject: "Application Symone, Molarnet, your_Surname" (Please note: We are currently not able to receive electronically signed and encrypted data). The quality of life in the Dresden region is unequalled in Europe. Please find more information at: http://home.meinestadt.de/dresden/attraktivitaets-ranking |
