1) The color of fresh rust just stripped off is black mingled with red and light green which would fade away after exposed to air.
2) Anode region discharge electrons which flow through steel bar into cathod space, and produce Fe2+ simultaneously. Fe2+ then combine with nearby Cl- ion, forming intermediate phase ferrum-cholorine complex. After that, the complex migrate from steel bar anode region to the void space in concrete where it decompose into brown Fe(OH)2 which precipitate around the anode region. The H+ and Cl- ions released by aforementioned process then must come back into the anode region, acidizing the aqueous solution in the void space near anode region. The Cl- ion then would bring out more Fe2+ ion over and over again in this way, that would accelerate the corrosion process of the reinforcing steel bar. |
