Ó¢¹ú¶ÅÂ×´óѧ¹âÆ×ѧ²©Ê¿ºó¸Úλ Curvature, asymmetry and patterning integrated through all length scales We seek a post-doctoral researcher to work in a large collaborative project involving groups at Imperial College, Cambridge, Leeds, Nottingham and Durham. The project aims to understand and control asymmetry, curvature and patterning in lipid bilayers and to use this knowledge to create complex hierarchical structures with lipid bilayers as the basic building block. This PDRA position is concerned with the generation and measurement of asymmetry in lipid bilayers and of the exchange processes between the bilayers leaflets. The primary techniques used will be linear and nonlinear optical spectroscopy. A key objective is the construction of a novel instrument to measure sum-frequency and Raman spectra simultaneously from planar supported lipid bilayers. Previous experience in pulsed laser spectroscopy is essential. The post-holder will report to Prof. Colin Bain at Durham University but will also work at the Photon Science Institute at Manchester University. This position is full-time for an initial period of 3 years with the possibility of extension. It is available immediately. The salary will be on Grade 7 of the University pay scale with an initial salary in the range £30122 ¨C £31948, depending on experience.
