[交流] Should businesses do anything they can to make a profit

As we know that the cardinal aim of the enterprises is make a profit, so that they can operate well and make progress, as well as make the economy of the society booming. But here comes a question: should they do anything which could make them achieve margin?

For the corporations that are at their incipient time, it is the profit that those companies are pursuing.How could the companies at the threshold survive without market?How could they sustain if they do not have enough customers? How could they advance if they could not get the money that they have invested? All these make them to make a profit at the cost of anything. A survey conducted by Zhejiang University showed that in order to earn the money, almost every factories in China contaminated the environment at the beginning of their founding, even if the managers knew that it was illegal and unsustainable.However,they also confessed that if they did not do so, the companies would go bankrupt,the workers would be fired, the families of the workers and the managers would live hard lives.Consequently, they were compelled to pollute the environment so that they could make a profit.

However,those industries that have established reputation,or become listed companies in the stock market,should do something other than making a profit only.To get a full apprehension of what this mean, we could take China Life Insurance Company Ltd.as a good example.When the seism occurred in Wenchuan on May 12th, 2008, the Sichuan Branch of the corporation dispatched a team containing 100 stuff members to the place where people suffered the catastrophe, and donated 3 million yuan to help those people to rebuild their family.If the company had not done it like this, they would have found their market value shrink and became notorious.Moreover,if they continued to puesue profit regardless of their social responsibilities, the outcome would be fatal that would cause the companies bankrupt.

Thus,we should not easily draw a definite conclusion that businesses should do anything they can to make a profit.For the small companies, maybe they should, but for the famous ones, they shouldn't and mustn't
