Happy Dragon Boat Festival


Hello, everyone.
The post is special for our weekly topic.
This week we will talk about the Dragon Boat Festival, one of the most important festivals.
The Dragon Boat Festival that takes place in May 5 in the lunar calendar has been widely passed down over two thousand years.
It said that this ancient festival is to commemorate a great poet. Long long ago, there was a minister of Kingdom Chu in the Warring States Period called Qu Yuan. He was slandered by treacherous persons and was very depressed. So he always walked around the Miluo River. Local residents also heard him sing the sad poem. Unfortunately，he jumped into the river holding a big stone on May 5.
There are various celebrating activities on Dragon Boat Festival, among which eating Zongzi and dragon boat race are important customs.
Zongzi is the traditional food. We also call it rice dumplings. If time permits, people will make the food by themselves. I love the meat Zongzi which is common in south. The materials including meat, mushrooms, egg, shrimp and dried bamboo shoots are mixed with the glutinous rice. And then they are wrapped in bamboo leaves. When they are steamed, I always feel hungry because of the aroma. People said that someone puts Zongzi into the river to feed fish to prevent those fish from eating the body of Mr Qu, but I have never seen it.
Dragon boat race has been developed into a folk custom. I had seen the race only once.The race is usually held on the river with fierce spectacle. Sailors paddle continuously on their feet and keep the dragon boat moving. People around the village will go to watch the race and cheer for their favorite team. And the winner will be awarded a silk banner.
Now the holiday for Dragon Boat Festival will begin. There is a three days vocation.

and each.year i can eat the zongzi made by my grandma it is very deliciouse but this year her fell very.sick so i can only buy some zongzi to celebrate the festival

Dragon boat festival is coming,I have no feeling though there is a three-day vocation.As a student from north, in south western of the China,the only food similar to celebrate the festival (zongzi) is also much different from south to north.I like zongzi made of rice with various teanuts and red date in our hometown,while not used to one made from meat,or add salt and something,in my opinion,it is very strange though I had been here for five years and get into the life of the city and like the food here.
It is OK,while,there is three day to go through as I like,it is still a good news.

Thanks very much, Miss Shuixian MM. You make me miss home so much! It is really a good festival. A number of theories exist about its origins as a number of folk traditions and explanatory myths are connected to its observance. I was born in Yueyang, as a local people, we admired Prof. Qu Yuan so much, in order to memorize him, we dropped sticky rice triangles wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river to feed Qu Yuan in the afterlife every year after his death. The rice was wrapped so that fish would not eat the rice meant to be eaten in Qu Yuan's afterlife. This is said to be the origin of zongzi. we also have paddled out on boats, either to scare the fish away or to retrieve his body. This is said to be the origin of dragon boat racing.

My mother and the neighbours would make zongzi when the Dragon Boat Festival came several years ago when i still at my primary or junior school.
But due to some reasons , the tradition didn't go on. At that time, there are just pinuts or red jujubes in the zongzi instead of pork or egg yolk, but it just tasted well that what we can buy nowadays. Maybe the taste will just be a kind of memory.

Happy Dragon Boat Festival !

In the countryside of my living,we made glutinous rice dumplings and eat them at home to celebrate thid traditionary festival.
In my memory when I was a child I soaked glutinous rice,washed reed leaves and wrap up zongzi by the teaching of Mom in Dragon Boat Festival. I was glad and excited that not only can made zongzi by myself but also can eat delicious different kinds zongzi.
Many kinds of zongzi occur in recent years.People put different metarial in the center of the zongzi,such as meat,ormosia,gram,and something mixed with at least two metarial. Different meratial make up delicious taste.

Now I am not at home, I can't eat zongzi made my mom.But I will call back to mom to afteast childhood beautiful memory.That's enough for me.

Wish everyon have a nice Dragon Boat Festival and enjoy eased weekend.

Thanks a lot for your post here.
I seldom eat Zongzi on this festival. However, they tasted very good when I tried some as my late breakfast yesterday morning. Having been very tired being busy on the students' final exams and the thesis defences these days, I have to have a deep sleep!
