Indeed, ferrocene derivatives have been proposed as antianemics, and one such compound, ferrocerone, was clinically approved in the USSR. To the best of our knowledge, this compoundwas the firstmarketed transition organometal drug. In this context, it is worth mentioning that another ferrocene-containing compound, which is a close derivative of chloroquine, has successfully passed clinical phase II trials as an antimalarial drug candidate The idea of using ruthenium-containing organometallics as anticancer agents was first developed by Tochter et al.
