It should be mentioned that microbial ferric-reducing activity measured in this study included redox reactions through oxidation of fermentation acids as well as glucose. Although only a minor portion of bacterial cultures could use glucose directly for iron reduction, some glucose-utilizing Fe(III) reducers showed strong electricity-producing ability and might play important role in MFC operation
