Helmholtz Association http://www.helmholtz.de/en/ Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal Research http://www.hzg.de/index.html.en The Centre for Biomaterial Development in Teltow http://www.hzg.de/institute/poly ... eltow/index.html.en The Centre for Biomaterial Development in Teltow (belongs to Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Centre for Materials and Coastal Research) invites applications of highly motivated chemists for a PhD Position in the field of ‘morphological and micro-mechanical characterization of shape-memory polymers and composites thereof’. The work will be focused on the preparation and comprehensive characterization of thermo-sensitive shape-memory polymers as well as their composites including the development of novel approaches to quantify the shape-memory effect on a microscopic length scale. The prepared materials will be analysed with respect to their composition, sequence, thermal and mechanical properties and morphology. Furthermore, novel micro-mechanical approaches for shape-memory functionalization of the desired polymer materials (e.g. using scanning force microscopy and related techniques) should be developed. The position is initially limited to 3 years. As successful applicant, you should have strong background in both polymer chemistry and polymer physics as well as in chemical kinetics with a Diploma or Master in Chemistry or Physics with a focus on Polymer Sciences or likewise. Applicants with a strong interest in translational research are especially welcome. You have a highly degree of self-motivation, enthusiasm, good communication (including speaking English fluently) and soft skills as well as a target oriented working profile. You are interested in building new competencies and to participate in sharing these in internal and external co-operations. You have the ambition to work in an interdisciplinary team with chemists, physicists and scientists of other disciplines in the field of Biomaterial Research in an international work environment offered at the chair and the institute.
