my village

My hometown, Hezhou, is in the west of Jiujiang which is the northernmost city of Jiangxi Province, lying beside the national road 316 between the cities of Nanchang and Wuhan, and being surrounded by mountains. It is a small and quiet village of approximately more than three hundred inhabitants, with a village primary school, a health center and several small shops. A small river meanders gently through the village. There was a junior middle school before the summer of 1998, which was merged into LUXI MIDDLE SCHOOL that is located in the center of the town of LUXI. There were three clinics before the construction of new rural cooperative medical service. The oldest doctor has been dead for many years. Now the other two doctors, of my father’s age, work in the village health center together. There are about five or six kinds of surnames, exclusive of those of women who married into the village. Among all the surnames, YU(余), LIN(林), LIU(刘), XIA(夏) are the majority. It is said that people whose surname is LIU moved here for flood many years ago. When I was a primary pupil, classmates who have the identical surname--- YU are the majority of the class. But the proportion decreased in the middle school class, and I am the only student that has the surname in my college class. YU is a small surname in china. The villagers live on rice, and plant rice every year. Occasionally, some people grow cotton and rape. Wheat is rarely cultivated. The region is so mountainous that the land that could be cultivated is not much, and that the rice is just enough for the villagers. Only few people sell their rice, who industriously cultivate other villagers' vacant land. There are few economic crops. But we have abundant woods. | We know a lot about your hometown from your detailed description. But I still like to have a more direct impression from one or several pictures of your hometown if you could generously present them. I like to see the views from different places although I can not be there due to the limitation of money. |
