Zhao, China Brief History of ICCE Right after the energy crisis of 1973, Prof. T.N. Veziroglu proposed to establish The Clean Energy Research Institute (CERI) at University of Miami to find solutions to depletion of fossil fuels and to the environmental problems caused by them. Since 1977, Prof. Veziroglu and CERI organized the 1st to the 9th Miami International Conference on Alternative Energy Source. The 9th conference was organized in early 1990¡¯s. In 2009, Dr. Veziroglu and Dr. Liu decided to re-start the very successful conference series. The first of the renewed conferences, the 10th International Conference on Clean Energy (ICCE 2010) was held at Famagusta, North Cyprus, September 15-17, 2010, the 2nd one was held at Taichung, Taiwan, November 2-5, 2011. The 12th International Conference of Clean Energy (ICCE 2012) will be held in Xi¡¯an, China, Oct. 26-30, 2012 and we assure you that it will be a more successful and fruitful one. Cultural Events Historical tour Option one: Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses¡ú Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang ¡úHuaqing Hot Springs Option two: Qianling Tomb ¡úFamen Temple City tour and shopping The Big Wild Goose Pagoda ¡úShaanxi Provincial History Museum ¡úThe Bell Tower ¡úShopping Conference Venue Information Xi'an, formerly called Chang'an, is one of the six ancient capitals in China and also one of the four great ancient capital cities of the world. During the Han and Tang Dynasties, Xi'an had been the greatest international city in the world. It was also the starting point of "Silk Road". Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses In 221 B.C., Emperor Qin Shi Huang of the Qin dynasty established the first centralized feudal dynasty in China. After his death, he was buried at the north foot of Lishan Hill in the east of Lintong country. In 1974, three large pits of terra-cotta figures were found. Over 6,000 clay warriors could be assumedly unearthed from the pit if it would be completely excavated. Terra-cotta Warriors is regarded as the eighth wonder of the world. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda The Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayan Ta) is located within the premises of the Temple of Great Maternal Grace (Dacien Si). This magnificent pagoda is four kilometers south of Xi'an and many regard it as a symbol of the city. The pagoda, built in 652 A.D., stands at 60 meters high. According to legend, the Temple was built to house and protect Buddhist scriptures collected in India by the Chinese monk, Xuan Zang. The Bell Tower and the Drum Tower The Bell Tower in Xi'an is situated in the very heart of the city and at the junction of four main roads. To the west of the Bell Tower is the Drum Tower. The felling here is almost of a "city within a city" and the streets around this district heading up to the Mosque are like a small village crammed with people selling all kinds of weird and wonderful things.
