[交流] Can an old man be a good babysitter?

Just now, I saw an old man carrying a baby on his chest, with his arms around the baby.

The old man and his family live in the same building with us. I am not familiar with the family, so I don't know who this baby's parents are .

The baby is about one and a half years old. Apparently, the old man is the baby's grandfather.

The old man held the baby on on his chest, and walked without saying anything, half of the baby's two legs were naked, because his (I think it is a boy) trouseres moved upward. The baby is also silent, not laughing, not making any voice.  

I think, perhaps, in the babby's brain, people should move without saying anything, babbies should be held on the chest of an adult. So, as time goes on, the baby will become into a silent child, it may become difficult for him to communicate with others.

What I want to express here is that, an old man may not be a good babysitter. For old people, when they are asked to take care of a baby, they often think to avoid the baby being hurt is the first thing they should do, so, often they carry babies in their arms even when they can walk, and talking with the baby is not important to them, either.

This is especially true for an  introverted man. So, when a young couple have to rely on an old man to be a babysitter, they should try to tell the old man how to take care of the baby, ask him to try to speak, smile to the baby. A babysitter needs not only to bring up the baby, but also to nurture the baby, to help the baby to build up a good character.

In this case, the couple should try to accompany their baby after work. So, go home to meet your baby as early as you can.

In my view it depends on the particular case.
Taking care of a baby is absolute hard work.
You need enough patience, carefulness, and love to deal with all the trifles.
Not all the people will do well，including the parents of the babies.
There are differences between he old persons，grandfather or grandmother，and the young parents in how to take good care of the babies.
I have to say you cannot control it if you need them to give a favor.

yeah！i have too nephew ,twins! one is forstered by my old sisiter,and the other is nurtured by my parents, commnunication is the most happy thing to my parents and my old sisiter! how could it be happen like lz said! I think bring up a chileld is lucky!

Now many couples leave the babies to their grandmothers or grandfathers. Because they must make money for subsistence. Lots of things for a new couple needed money excpet a few couples. Lots of them must repay the house loan and bring up the babies or their parent. So responsibility is very important for the couples. I can say that many of them want to take care of their babys by themselves. But the work made them have only little time to play with children. Many of them will give the baby a good environment to grow up.

I am partly agree with you , however, there are also many advantages for grandfather and grandmother to take care of babies. They have more experiences,  are kind and patient enough for babies' miatakes and careless.  In a word, there words to babies are always of encouragements.
