About Li Bai

As everyone in our country, I learned Li Bai' poems when still young. But, the introduction of Li Bai is always very short in the textbook. It always says, Li Bai, from Chengji, Longxi, born in Suyat city (near Tokmok in Asia minor)... I always searched for the city of Tokmok in the atlas, but always failed. Because at that time, the only atlas was from our school, it was thin, with only a few maps. We can only find big cities like Moscow or Seoul. At that time, I often wondered, the city of Tokmok is so far away, how did Li Bai get to places such as Moutain Lu, or the Baidi City, when there is no motor or railway? When thinking of this, I often became sad. Later, I bought two books named Selected Tang Poems. There is a more detailed introduction of Li Bai in this book. But, it is still not detailed enough. Perhaps, the reason why I regard it not detailed enough is that, it tell nothing about Li Bai's offsprings. Li Bai is so famous for his poems, is any of his sons good at writing peoms? Where did they go? Where are their offsprings today? These problems always obsessed me. Later, as time goes on, we have a better internet. One day, I read a biography of Li Bai on the net. It says, Li Bai has two two sons and a daughter, one daughter and the son were born by his first wife, the second one was born by his second or third wife whom he met in Shandong province. But the pity is that, none of them are good at writing peoms, to make things worse, it seems they did not give birth to more sons, which make the Li Bai family become extinct. What a pity! Later, I got to know Li Bai' tomb is in Dangtu county, Maanshan City, Anhui proviince. Li is often regarded as a romantic poet. He wrote so many marvelous poems. Nearly about 1300 years after his death, we are still reading his poems, and we are still often moved by his poems, imaging that one day, we will become into heros and do a lot for our country. During his life, Li Bai paid little attention to earthly things, such as fame, possesions. He danced, he sang, he drank, he wrote nice poems. He traveled across our country, from Sichuan to Shandong, from Shandong to Zhejiang. So, it is normal that he left little properties to his sons or daughter. If he had left a lot to his offsprings, he would have not written so many peoms. So, what is important to us from Li Bai, is his poems, but not his offspring. A person is what she or he does for this world, what she or he contributes to others, not what she or he gets from the world. |

I‘m interested in in his death. It is said Li Bai was drowned according to the Old Book of Tang. He drunk a lot and found the moon in the water was so beautiful.
