In corresponding MS2 spectra, the fragment peaks with m/z 258 [cleavage of C2–C3 in hexosamines (GlcN, GalN)] and m/z 300 [cleavage of C2–C3 in N-acetylhexosamine (GlcNAc, GalNAc)]exhibit the topmost abundance and can be used as indicators for the presence of hexosamines and N-acetylhexosamine. The most intense MS2 peak with m/z 326.9 (loss of two water molecules) is indicative of deoxyhexoses Fuc and Rha. Other types of monosaccharides can also be identified by their fragmentation analysis. |
