Postdoc opportunity in cell biology Protein folding in the cell regulated by Hsp70 molecular chaperones An opportunity for a postdoc project in cell biology is currently available at the Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm University. Research is primarily focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying chaperone-mediated protein folding in the eukaryotic cell using yeast as a model system. Hsp70 molecular chaperones facilitate folding and conformational changes of cellular proteins, hence they are required to maintain protein homeostasis and therefore life. Impairment of the Hsp70 chaperone system is associated with disease. Projects aim at unraveling how the general Hsp70 chaperones of the cytosol are targeted to specific cellular protein substrates. Already initiated projects close to publication are available. Availible are also more orphan projects that can be adapted to the interests and ideas of the successful applicant. Methodology involves techniques from genetics, cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry, e.g. yeast genetic analysis, microscopy, protein purification and biochemical reconstitution. Applicants should have a strong interest in experimental cell biology. Creativity, strong motivation and an analytical mindset are critical qualities. Well-developed communication skills are required. Candidates have previous graduate training in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or genetics. Specifically, a background working with yeast, molecular chaperones or biochemistry is meriting. The postdoc is financed by stipend, one year.
