Lunar Jan. 5th, driving away poverty.

Yesterday is lunar Jan. 5, an important day after the New Year Day, fireworks bangs around us. In many places, it was the time to drive poverty away. Poverty has accompanyied for thousands of years, we did not have enough food, nor had we enough clothes. So, at the occasion of new year, people hoped to drive poverty away with the big noise of fireworks. When I was young, when we lived in cave dwellilngs on the Loess Plateau, my mother, who in my mind was not as brave as my father, took fireworks in her hand and lighted as she walked from the innermost place of the cave dwelling to the door, in this way, she intended to drive the poverty from our home. I was impressed by what my mother did, which made her as brave as my father in my mind. Yesterday, one of my friends who lives in Guangdong told me, it is the day of getting rich, wish you prosperity! It seems this tradition exists across China. May we become rich! |
