[交流] Tradition of lunar New Year in my hometown

The last day of this year came.
As I getting older, I am becoming more and mre nostaligic. Also, as the society develops, more and more old traditions will become into history. So, it seems writing down these old traditions is of a little importance.
Lighting a fire happens many times at this special occasion, such as at the evening of the last day, in the morning of the first day of the new year, and in the evening of the Lantern Festival. The old told us, this was for the warming of the souls of our late ancesters, who came back to meet their offsprings, and feel cold after a long journey. So, at this time, no big noise could be made, such as those of fireworks, because this will frighten our ancesters. Also, poeple jump over the fire, or move a kid over the fire to discard the unfortunateness from them. In the cold weather, in the dark, peope gathered around a fire, the face of every people looks red in the light of the fire, with children running and laughing, it is really the most important memory of the lunar new year to me. My hometown is on the Loess Plateau, where villages lie on the sides of big valleys, at the new year occasions, because poeple light the fire at the gate of their house, so, you can see that the valleys were decorated with many organges dots in the dark evevnings.
Distributing walnuts and jujubes. At that time, candies were short. Walnut and jujube trees are available in my hometown. After harvest, people will sell most of the harvest, keep a little for children for the lunar new year occasion. After supper of the last day, the master (perhaps we can call him this way..

) will gather all the children (at that time, there were at least three in each familiy), give them some money, beside this, each child will get a small pile of walnuts, dried persimmons, jujubies and candies. Children will keep these as their lingzuir during the festival.
Dough figurine, small animal statues made of dough. This is for the Lantern Festival. Animals include pig, tiger, dog, and my mother often made a statue called chicken on the back of a cow. During preparing of these statues, nearly all the children take part in, it is of course one of the most happy time for them, it is also a kind of DIY. In countryside and winter at that time, green and frest vegetables were not available, so imagine a statue made of white flour, two shining black beans as its eyes and a piece of red raddish in its mouth, how lovely it is! At the evening of the Lantern Festival, all the statues stand in front of a candle, and the lamps were off for a rest, because they have worked for a whole year. In the dark kitchen, a small blaze of the candle burns quietly with a wall of dough statues. Of course, preparing, and assembling these statues in front of the candle is the most happy time. For children, they will find that these statues do not taste good, because they are only doughs.
