QS World University Rankings 2011/12: Freie Universitaet Berlin No. 66

Freie Universitaet Berlin One of Four Best in Germany / High Academic Standards and Improved Reputation among Employers


© QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd. The prestigious QS World University Ranking puts Freie Universität in 66th place worldwide. In the latest ranking published in September in London, Freie Universitaet improved its position from the previous year by four places.

Among German universities Freie Universitaet Berlin is in fourth place. According to this ranking, only four of the nine universities selected in the German government’s Excellence Initiative are among the 100 best universities in the world. Freie Universität is the only university in Berlin to be included in the top 100.

The university’s success can be attributed to the high academic level of its disciplines and by its increase in prestige among employers.

Six indicators were included in the competition: the academic reputation of the institution, the citations of its faculty, the faculty-student ratio, the reputation of its graduates among employers, and the international composition of its students and faculty.
