Understanding the growth processes of novel nanostructures——ZhongLin Wang Abstract Nanomaterials are the fundamental ingredients for nanotechnology. The behaviors of nanomaterials are distingctly different from those of the bulk materials. With the increased surface-to-volume ratio when the size of an object reaches nanometer scale, various growth processes and phenomena that do not occur for large-size bulk may start to emerge, because surface effect takes an important role in determining the shape of the nanostructure. Understanding the physical and chemical processes of how these nanostructures are formed and evolved is essential in design, control and large-scale synthesis of nanomaterials..
