"Dear XXX,
I have discussed with my co-PIs about interviewing process. In order not to be more efficient, we decided to interview a smaller number of candidates that I had initially thought. Unfortunately, you are just below the cut-off for this shorter shortlist. We might still request to hear your presentation and interview you at a later date if you are still available then. Because of this, there is no need to prepare for a presentation at this point.
In the meantime, I wish you a happy thanksgiving holiday. I am sorry for the slight disappointment that it might bring. "
