The overpopulated world

Finally！With a loud baby cry, the world has crossed the threshold of 7 billion population. Perhaps many individuals neither know nor care , however, the issue of population explosion will be the toughest problem facing mankind in the foreseeable future. The good news is that China's share in world's population has dropped slightly due to the brilliant one-child policy, and it will continue to decline. It is estimated that China will step into an aging society decades later. One of the pressing research subjects is how to sharpen our competitive edge in human resources given the fact that China's cheap labor force will decrease on a large scale. The situation of other areas, especially African ones, can't be so optimistic. For those emerging nations , the top priority should be given to the solutions of how to feed their mounting population with the ever-decreasing resources and scarce cultivable land while ensuring stable economical development at the same time. It's a little difficult as most of these countries are busy fighting against famine,poverty,diseases,and the endless racial conflicts. The UN secretary Ban Ki-moon warned all the countries of the insidious threat posed by overpopulation in a latest address. If left unchecked, these starving mouths will undoubtedly impoverish our planet, causing catastrophic consequences on the ecosystem, which in turn, will spell doom for the very existence of human being. Not to mention the contribution of an devastating war struggling for the right to live. It will be the last scenario we' like to see. So it's high time all nations joined hands to take some effective steps to control the exponential growth of population before the earth is too crowed. |
