[求助] 麻烦哪位大侠给翻译一下两个句子

翻成英语的，尽量地道一些吧：现在几百万公顷的土地使用塑料膜（plastic mulch），单单在中国，1989年就使用了二百八十六万七千多公顷的地膜，这一增长是很显著的，1979年才使用40多公顷。
      翻成中文的，我来拿不准意思：  There are as many partial derivatives（偏导数）of the first order（一阶）as there are independent variables（自变量）.

Only in China, the areas of the mulches were two millions eight hundreds and sixty seven thousands (2,867,000) hectares in 1989, a remarkable increase compared with the year of1979, whose corresponding areas were over forty hectares.
