Objectives The overall theme, style and atmosphere of the Conference will adhere to those of preceding PSST Meetings: •Mallorca, PSST-1998 •Madrid, PSST-2000 •Tenerife, PSST-2002 •Cullera, Valencia, PSST-2004 •Sitges, Barcelona, PSST-2006 •Sa Coma, Mallorca, PSST-2008 •Valencia, PSST-2010 The Conference will critically analyze the changes in state-of-the-art in the field of porous semiconductors during the two years that have passed since the PSST-2010 event. The emphasis will be kept on developing and understanding fabrication, properties and uses of porous semiconductors. We are the only international conference entirely dedicated to porous semiconductors, promoting their use in life sciences, as well as electronics, sensing, chemical and photochemical applications. The Conference will continue to serve to connect researchers interested in physics and chemistry of semiconductors, optics, electrochemistry, analytical instrumentation, biochemistry, medicine and other related fields. Both established experts and representatives of emerging fields are welcome to attend, establish new cooperation links and achieve better results through coordination of their efforts. 10. Scope and Topics The Program of the Conference will include up to 8 invited talks, as well as oral and poster presentations. Reports related to all aspects of porous semiconductors are welcome. Nevertheless, the Organizing Committee strongly recommends conforming submitted contributions to particular topics proposed by the Conference Chairs: Prof. Androula Nassiopoulou (NCSR Demokritos, Greece) - •Electrochemical and metal-assisted chemical etching. •Pore filling •Microsystems engineering •Electronic applications Prof. Leigh Canham (pSiMedica Ltd., UK) - •Novel fabrication techniques •Luminescence & microphotonics •Comparative studies with mesoporous ceramics & mesoporous metals •Medical diagnostics, imaging and therapy Prof. Michael Sailor (University of California at San Diego, USA) - •Mesopore chemistries & confinement effects •Sensors •Energy conversion •Novel structures & emerging applications The final program will be published by January 30, 2012. Type of presentation (invited, oral or poster) will be determined by the Advisory Board through voting (results will be available on the Conference website). Authors will be informed of the modality of their presentation in advance and will have access to their personal marks. 11. Short course Introductory Short Course will be organized at the beginning of the Conference on Sunday, 25 March, 2012 for young scientists and newcomers to the field, similarly to those provided during previous years. Topics of the lectures have been proposed by the Conference Co-Chairs and will be delivered by them as announced at the Conference WEB-side. 12. Milestones and Deadlines The Pre-Conference calendar is as follows: •12 July 2011 - First Announcement sent to the prospective participants •5 October 2011 - Second Announcement sent to the prospective participants •1 November 2011 - Abstract submission via WEB opening •25 December 2011 - deadline for Abstract submission •30 January 2012 - deadline for Abstracts voting •7 February 2012 - Conference program is ready and published on WEB •15 February 2012 - deadline for the Advanced Registration Fee payment •15 February 2012 - deadline for the Hotel reservation •29 February 2012 - deadline for cancelation with a reduced penalty of 50E (Fee and Hotel) •1 March 2012 - no Registration Fee reimbursement •15 March 2012 - deadline for the Normal Registration Fee payment •15 March 2012 - deadline for the Hotel cancelation with one night penalty •15 March 2012 - no Hotel reimbursement •25 March 2012 - the PSST 2012 Opening Deadline for the full paper submission will be communicated upon concluding the agreement with the Editorial. Submission of Abstracts All Conference Abstracts will be published in a special book (with ISBN) available for the participants upon arrival to the Conference site. Deadline for submission of Abstracts is December 25, 2011. Please meet this deadline to assure the inclusion of your contributions into the book of Abstracts. The authors are kindly asked to submit their Abstracts in electronic format through the PSST 2012 Web-site. This will make processing and evaluation more efficient and fast. Special TEMPLATE must be used to ensure correct formatting of your abstract. It is available for downloading from our Web-site. Our extensive experience in Abstracts preparation for printing the Book of Abstracts leads us to strongly recommend using the only MS Word 2003 format. Please save your abstract in this format before uploading it to the WEB. Please avoid sending MS Word 2007 and PDF files. As previous Conferences have shown these files may be distorted at the moment of printing, so a special control and a rejecting of such formatted abstracts is foreseen in our informatics system. The Abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts directly from the authors� originals. The extended Abstract should not exceed two A4 pages, each consisting of one column of text (160x240 mm). Please do your best to clearly state objectives, new results, and conclusions or significance of the work. Please do not squeeze too much information into the Abstract - excessive volume of text would make your work difficult to read. Text, references, tables, graphs, and figures should be placed within the limits of the column, including the empty areas of the plots. The abstract must not include graphs, plots etc. in the form of embedded objects like Origin. Convert them, instead, into images and insert into the text. The finished abstract must be uploaded into the Conference site by a corresponding author selecting the two preferred topics, main and secondary. If a poster presentation is preferred, please indicate so. While sending the abstract please introduce the names of all co-authors. The extended list of former participants at the PSSTs will help you to fulfill this obligatory procedure. The adherence to the above mentioned formatting instructions will be verified by the system prior to the upload. If you encounter problems while submitting your files, please make sure your work meet all the above criteria. All the (co)-authors registered on and logged into the Conference Web- site will be able to check the status of their abstracts, the modality as assigned by the members of the Advisory Board, the date and time of their presentations during the Conference. The Conference Program will be finished in late January and published at the PSST 2012 WEB. The authors should visit it for the Program details. If you have any question, please contact us via email. 14. Conference Prizes A long standing PSST tradition of awarding official prizes for Best Talk of the Day, Best Poster and Best Contribution of the Conference will be upheld once again. As usual, most of the prizes will be awarded through direct voting by the participants. Some less official and friendly prizes will also be established. 15. Conference Registration fees VERY IMPORTANT: Deadlines for Fees modality take into account the date of payment, not WEB registration! Please note that our Conference and Web- site manage the two types of registrations: (1) registration at the Web- site that provides the possibility to upload your abstracts, view details of voting results, the Program etc., AND (2) Conference Registration, which is a compromise to come to the Conference confirmed by payment of the established Fee. Please carefully read the instructions how to register at the Conference (type 2), fill a corresponding web page and confirm your registration (after that you will have no possibility to change data). After this download the Registration Form, sign it and send together with confirmation of the payment to our official travel agency Viajes Alicante S.A. (att. Ms. Marisa Sempere or Mr. Jose Francisco Gran, by fax (+34 965 926 542). Alternatively you can prepare and sign the Registration Form, scan it and send the electronic copy by email (congresos@viajesalicante.com, josefrancisco@viajesalicante.com). Only after receiving the Registration Form and the payment you have officially registered to the Conference. Payment should be made in Euros, prices include taxes. Make a transfer to the bank account specified at the Registration Form clearly introducing both Your Name and the title of the "Conference PSST-2012" to avoid problems in processing your payment. Otherwise, provide us with the data of your credit card. No support to the on-line credit card payment will be enabled. Introduce the data manually in the printed Registration Form (we will not collect this information in our web-accessible database). Most credit cards are acceptable. Completed Registration Form together with the payment document must be received by February 15, 2012 to qualify it for the reduced advanced rates. Refunding (with a 50E penalty) will be only possible upon written request if received before February 29, 2012. After 1 March 2012 no Registration Fee reimbursement will be done. Please contact directly the Viajes Alicante S.A. travel agency for any question or request on established financial conditions and processing. Each participant will receive a proof of payment upon arrival to the Conference. Please provide us with correct billing information in case the payment is done by your Institution. You have to confirm a correctness of this information by your signature in the Registration Form. 16. Hotel Accommodation Instructions The Conference activities will be organized at the Hotel Monte Malaga (Paseo Antonio Machado, 10, 29002, Malaga, Spain), that offers its services during PSST-2012 for special rates. Conference attendants are encouraged to make reservation through our web-site. You should fill the corresponding web page and confirm your reservation (after that you will have no possibility to change data). Then download the Hotel Reservation Form. Please carefully read this Form and special instructions for payment written there. They are very similar to those for the Conference registration. Complete the Hotel Reservation Form and send it together with a payment document to our official travel agency Viajes Alicante S.A. (att. Ms. Marisa Sempere or Mr. Jose Francisco Gran, Fax.+34 965 926 542, congresos@viajesalicante.com; josefrancisco@viajesalicante.com). The deadline for the Hotel reservation is February 15, 2012 and after this date no reservation is possible. Refunding could be made upon a written request to the Local Organizing Committee: •before 29 February 2012 with a 50Euro penalty •between 1 and 15 March 2012 with one night penalty •after 15 March 2012 o no show at the Conference no refund will be done Please contact directly the Viajes Alicante S.A. travel agency for any question or request about financial conditions and processing. Contributed papers, submission and publication The Organizing Committee is working to conclude an agreement with Wiley to publish the presented contributions. Authors will be additionally informed and encouraged to submit full size manuscripts for publication in the Proceedings Volume of the Physica Status Solidi similarly to what has been done at the previous PSST Congresses. The papers demonstrate justified scientific value may be published as a regular paper in Physica Status Solidi (a), more technical and experimental works will be published in a (c) series. Assignations will be done at a moment of the manuscript acceptance by Guest Editors and Referees. The Proceedings will appear in print within six-eight months after the Conference, nevertheless the on-line publication will be available immediately upon acceptance. The authors and all registered on the PSST 2012 Conference participants will receive an electronic disc of this Proceedings Volume. The length of each paper is limited (journal format) to 8 pages for invited talks and to 5 pages for contributed papers. The manuscripts should be submitted directly on-line to the Phisica Status Solidi Editorial to the Conferences habilitated area (PSST 2012). It is necessary to ensure a correct formatting of the paper - for this purpose please use the Template for Papers available on the PSST-2012 and PSS WEBs. Authors will be allowed to upload their full size manuscripts later on January 2012. All the manuscripts will be reviewed by the members of the International Scientific Committee and shortly after that the authors will be informed about the acceptance of the paper or the necessary improvements to be done. 18. Transportation No shuttle transportation is foreseen for the participants due to proximity of the Malaga airport to the city (appr. 20 km) and good public transportation means. Monte Malaga Hotel is situated practically in the heart of the city, at Paseo Maritimo Antonio Machado, 10. The Web- site contains detailed information on how to arrive to the hotel from the airport. 19. Social Program Several social activities are included in the Registration Fee: •Welcome reception with cocktail on Sunday, 25 March (right after the introductory Short Course). •Gala Dinner with Conference Awards and some more informal speeches on 29 March. •Sight-seeingtour around Malaga (the town of Mijas, Andalusian touristic highlight) during the Conference, on Wednesday, 28 March 2012. Visit to Granada (including a tour of the Alhambra Palace) is planned for after the Conference, on 30 March 2012, subjected to cancellation if not enough people join in. More detailed information will be provided during the Conference. 20. Weather The weather in Malaga at the middle of March may be sunny and fresh during evening and night times. Malaga enjoys plenty of sunshine throughout the year, with an average of about 300 days of sunshine and only about 50 days with precipitation each year. The average high temperature in March is 19.1C (66.4F), average low is 9.0C (48,2F). Temperature of see water is around 16C (61F). On-line weather forecast is available on the PSST web. 21. Financial assistance The Organizing Committee is continuously working to provide some financial help for young scientists and those having difficulties in covering the conference expenditures. The limited support will be available for invited speakers. 22. Visa The Organizing Committee can issue a letter of support for those who need Spanish visa to come to the Conference. Please visit respective web page for specify this and fill additional information: •Names of people who will apply for visa (participant and accompanying person); •Passport data (country, number, issue and expiry dates for all applicants), •Address to which the letter of support has to be sent (postal and fax) After introducing these data and final confirmation of your request for visa on the PSST Web the conference secretary will manage it here, at the Organizing Committee: print, get the signature of the Conference Chair and send to the address you specified. Please register at the Conference and book the hotel before sending your request to the Organizing Committee: these are necessary requisites for getting a Spanish visa.
