| The least squares algorithm synthesizes the spectrum of the sample under analysis by taking a linear combination of all the elemental shapes spectra and the background shape spectrum. The coefficients on the linear combination of elemental shapes and background spectra are scaling factors determined by minimizing chi-square thus producing the best fit possible by least square minimization. Values of the chi-square statistic are calculated for each sample and fluorescer to give an indication of the quality of the fit. |
