Ability against acid rain attack as a stone consolidant - lines 1-10 The pH change vs the number of periodic spraying indicates, for the untreated sample, a reduced corrosion during time: can the authors give an explanation to this behaviour? Is it due to the formation of gypsum not completely dissolved in water which acts as "passivity surface"? However the pH trend of Fig.7 does not seem to reach the stability after 7 periodic sprayings: low but constant is in fact observed. Explain and justify this trend. The trend of Calcium concentration (Fig.8) is "almost" in accordance with the pH values: this accordance is more evident for the first periodic sprayings than for the last ones. Probably this is due to the dissolution of gypsum formed during the previous sprayings without attack of new carbonate substrate. Introduce the explanation of this behaviour. |
