There are a number of critical issues regarding the restoration and enhancement of images captured by biomedical imaging systems, such as Poisson noise and space variant point spread functions. Such effects are often neglected in conventional image restoration algorithms. The special issue is therefore dedicated to the subject of biomedical image restoration and enhancement techniques, mainly in suppression of highly structured or correlated noise and artifacts for biomedical imaging systems. *** Topics of interest (but are not limited to) *** -> Image degradation modeling and image quality evaluation -> Deblurring and denoising -> Interpolation, super-resolution, and mosaicing -> Registration, multi-frame image restoration -> Inpainting and image synthesis -> Applications in MRI, PET, SPECT, microscopy imaging, etc *** Important dates *** Submission of manuscripts: January 1, 2012 First decision notification: April 1, 2012 Submission of revised papers: May 15, 2012 Final Acceptance/Rejection notice: July 1, 2012 *** Submission guidelines *** All manuscripts and any supplementary material (e.g. animations) should be submitted through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES).
