Corporate Technology Introduction As indispensable part of Siemens Corporate Technology global innovation network, Corporate Technology of Siemens Ltd., China (SLC CT) was established in 1999 and started significant expansion in 2004 with the mission to develop unique innovations for Siemens business in China and worldwide.

As the largest and fastest-growing market in the world, China is also an excellent location for top-class innovation. China has huge reserve of skilled talents, many good universities and national research institutes, and dynamic customers who are willing to try new things. China is well known for its strength in practical and application specific ideas. It has also started to produce original ideas along with a determined government pushing for local innovations. As a result, annual patent applications in China have increased greatly, surpassing Germany and with 15% annual increase rate. Local companies are realizing the patent value and filing more and more patents. Although China still needs more experienced senior innovation managers, better IP protection and other improvements, it is definitely on the way to become a major global innovation player.

In this circumstance, Siemens Corporate Technology is in the process of expanding its research activities in China. By the end of August 2009, about 250 employees have been working at the labs of SLC CT in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. Along with other divisions (MM, IC, SE, PP, PS, and SCR) SLC CT has become another major CT Division as a worldwide partner for innovation.

As a worldwide partner for innovation, SLC CT is building up innovation strengths to support Siemens business in both the Chinese and the global market. In addition to conducting projects with SLC CT's own technologies, SLC CT also works closely with other CT divisions to adapt their technologies for the Chinese market.

For technologies, SLC CT will focus on Energy, Industry and Healthcare to address the main challenges China is facing.

Innovation Strategy: sandwich approach to lead at the high end market, stay in the game in the middle, and change the game from the emerging market.
