How does Carl's life go on?

How does Carl's life go on? The inspiration of this blog came from an American movie "Yes Man", featured Jim Kerry, shown on 2008. Just the same as his former movies, Jim Kerry used his exaggerated facial expressions and bodily movements to interpret his comical attitude to life, which was pretty positive and optimistic, but also brought in some problems. Strongly recommended by Wei, I watched the movie several days ago. Recently, I felt my mind was in a whirl. Carl's experiences came across my mind. It aroused some subtle feelings to me. Probably, not every passerby has watched it. Thus let me give a brief introduction. Carl's girlfriend left him and fell in love with another guy. His personal life was soon plunged into a mess. Just like all of those rejected wretches, he lived as a recluse, locked himself in the house, and refused every invitation. Peter, his best friend, nearly did all he could do to get him back into normal life, but it didn't make any difference. One day, he didn't attend Peter's wedding ceremony, but it did be entirely unintentional. So, Carl made up his mind to change himself thoroughly. Yielded to Peter's press and temptation, Carl took part in Reality TV Show. What he wanted to challenge was: Can't say "No" to anyone for any reason. In a word, just say "Yes" and never say "No". Based on the compere's theory, saying "No" means refusing others, refusing others means refusing life, refusing life means killing yourself. Because Carl couldn't decline any request whatever it was, his life got into a disordered condition soon. He often had to face many ironic requests. However, nearly at the same moment, because of his definite "Yes", gradually, Carl began to look at life in a new light, and learnt how to accept life itself. Suddenly, life became full of endless possibilities with hopes. At the point up to now, Carl's experience was served as a successful positive educational movie material. Unfortunately, life is not always that simple. Complexity of life lies on how to explain it well with an invariable appropriate model. If we must give serious thoughts to our lives, conventionally in a really rational way of thinking as many scientists do, there must be such a basic principle everything has to follow. Human has been always chasing after the unity of natural science and philosophy of life for a really long time. For our lives, for our society, for our world, what on earth is the basic principle? Carl, a Yes Man, was still holding on his principle: Just say "Yes" and never say "No". It seemed that everything was going better and better. Carl not only got a promotion and salary increase, but also picked up with Alison, a beautiful girl, and fell in love with her. He not only won 45 million dollars prize, but also got a nursing degree and travelled around the world. How's the plot going to develop? How does Carl's life go on? The more perseverance one makes, the more hesitant he will feel. Human's firmness on belief often makes us into an extremely embarrassed circumstance. We hold on our basic principle for all life, but at last, we find it can't explain anything. Finally, we close our eyes, block our ears, until the whole world means nothing to us. A strong loneliness is approaching to me. |
