The Nightfall

The sun was setting west. A gleaming gold reflecting on the window caught my eyes. So I went upstairs and stood on the roof, watching what was going on. What a fabulous scene! The rosy evening clouds were swimming in the sky, floating with the gentle wind, constantly changing their gestures, fantastic in shapes and sizes. For one time, I stared at my scarecrow high there buried in mediation, but it disappeared in no time, never to be found. Maybe it would wait for me in the old place tomorrow, haha! A brisk wind swept, bringing everything into life, which had been scorched under the burning sun all the day. The hill in the distance was cheering and the old well was singing, the bamboo thicket was dancing and the fluffy clouds were holding a party, a flight of joyful birds joined them, adding to the jubilation. There in the sky, the sun was greeting the moon. I guess this must be the sweetest time for Grandpa the Sun to meet Sister the Moon. Muhaha! Look, my potted plants were also infected with the atmosphere. The thorny cactus became so green and gentle now, and my morning glories were in full blossom. They were celebrating the day and welcoming the coming day. All these constituted such a tranquil and heart-breaking picture under the background of the sunset glow! Time slipping by... so slow... Twilight beckons them, with its call, Bidding them soon to go. Yet none of these can share the thrill Of what tonight has planned... This evening's sky will say goodbye And darkness rules once more... Then silvered twinkling eyes will spy The truth behind each roar! Behold the night! The fearsome thing! When Nature's secrets hide And creatures that can bite and sting Won't sleep until they've tried... Come, my ladies, our time is close, We hunt for food in pairs... If not, we starve, death overthrows And ends our night affairs... Our solemn business soon begins... Our partnership persists... May God forgive us for our sins... As long as each exists...' The poem is based on the magnificent painting by Stephen Gayford called 'Waiting For Nightfall'. An angel can't be broken When dropped from the heavens. Though she can't speak While choked by the words From her preaching saviour. And as she weeps, The clouds gently darken And the thunder rolls Like her crystal tears, Falling angelically on her lap. Like water from a glass, Her heart falls into her hands. She holds it high, Glistening like rubies That fall like drops of water Into a still, idyllic ocean. The angel is a gem, A precious, And rare gem. Alone for centuries And crying for The Touch.
