The  XPS  spectra  of  the  as-prepared  mesoporous  samples
(Fig.  5)  show  the  characteristic  spin¨Corbit  split  of  Ce3d,
Ti2p, and O1s signals. The Ce3d photoelectron spectra of all
CeO 2 /TiO 2 samples  can  be  assigned  to  be  3d 3/2 spin¨Corbit
states (labeled u) and 3d 5/2 states (labeled v).
Therefore, a mixture of Ce 3+ ¡¢ 4+ ce oxidation  states  exists  on  the  surface  of  the ordered  mesoporous  CeO 2 /TiO 2 samples  calcined  at  400, 500,  and  600 1 C.  The  molar  proportion  of  Ce 4+ /Ce 3+ is 51.6%,   52.5%   and   63.8%   for   samples:   Ce/TiO 2 -400, Ce/TiO 2 -500, and Ce/TiO 2 -600, respectively.
