Sp3/sp2 character of the carbon and hydrogen configuration in micro- and nanocrystalline diamond

The integrated intensity ratio (ID/IG) of the D and G bands conventionally indicates the degree of order in the clustered aromatic sp2 phase [11]. This region is magnified in Fig. 6, where the spectra are normalized to the G band. It is noticeable that the shape, wavenumber position and relative intensity of the G and D bands are depending on the analysed sample, in particular for the two samples presenting the smaller grain size (HF CVD 20 nm and MP CVD 30 nm). This can be an indication of different structures of the sp2 phases. For these two samples, a shoulder is also observed on Raman spectra at about 1170 cm− 1, assigned to transpolyacetyleneFig. 5.
