Dear Dr .....: We are pleased to inform you that your manuscript, "........." has been accepted for publication in Journal of Materials Science. Your paper will be published electronically on Springer's On-Line First within the next few months. Online First articles are: * Electronically published individually, after an author has reviewed proofs and all corrections have been carried out. They are in citable form weeks before distribution of the print journal. * Published within the SpringerLink service in HTML format. For the publication in the printed version, only the final pagination and the citation line are added. * Fully citable by their Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and included in abstracting services; the official publication date is the online publication date, which is indicated on SpringerLink and in the printed version of the journal. If you haven't already sent the signed Copyright Transfer Form, we will need to receive it. You can locate the form on the journal's Welcome Page at: http://jmsc.edmgr.com/ Please print the form, sign it, and return it to us by fax at 781-878-0449. Thank you. Your manuscript cannot be published unless the signed form is on file. Best regards, The Editorial Office Journal of Materials Science P.S.: If you would like to have your accepted article published with open access in our Open Choice program, please access the following web site: http://www.springer.com/openchoice. 退稿的。: Dear Dr......, Please accept our apologies for the delay in returning a recommendation on your manuscript. I am sorry to report that the reviewers of this manuscript do not feel it is suitable for publication in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B. The reasons for this decision are given in the enclosed comments of the review committee. I sincerely hope that these comments will be useful to you and that you will not hesitate to submit other manuscripts to us in the future. Sincerely yours, R. Fruehan Associate Editor Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B PLEASE SCROLL DOWN BELOW THIS LETTER TO SEE COMMENTS OF THE REVIEW COMMITTEE. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Key Reader(Points In Favor): The effect of combined additives is interesting and results for such sytems are much less numerous than those with only one additive. Key Reader(Points Detracting): As it is pointed out by one reviewer, authors seem to ignore published literature on the slag systems being investigated. Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 system, for instance, is well characterised and phase diagrams have been published many years ago. As it was suggested by reviewer, "The authors failed to cross check their measurements with the phase diagram and other property data on this system. Had they examined such body of information, they would have noticed (1) there was no need to repeat such measurements using an inferior experimental technique for determination of melting temperature and (2) if one assumes that the melting temperature is same as the liquidus temperature, then their data shows considerably lower temperatures (~150 C) than well established data." At this stage, experimental data are not robust or reliable enough to be published in the Met Trans B. Reviewer #1(Points Detracting): This paper suffers from a number of weaknesses and its publication in the present form is not recommended. Some of the main issues are: Poor description of experimental procedure, including the exact composition of the starting slag, control of atmosphere to avoid loss of F, etc. Authors seem to be unfamiliar with published literature on the slag systems being investigated. For example the Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 system is well characterised and the published data have been assessed phase diagram has been published many years ago and readily available in a number of reference books, including the Slag Atlas. The authors failed to cross check their measurements with the phase diagram and other property data on this system. Had they examined such body of information, they would have noticed (1) there was no need to repeat such measurements using an inferior experimental technique for determination of "melting temperature" and (2) if one assumes that the "melting temperature" is same as the liquidus temperature, then their data shows considerably lower temperatures (~150 C) than well established data. Similar comments could also be made on some of the more complex systems that the authors investigated e.g. Al2O3-CaO-SiO2-CaF2. The section on discussion of results tends to focus on the application of the results rather their validity of the data presented and its relationship with current understanding of the effects of additives on physico-chemical properties of such slags. The discussion on the CaF2 addition needs to first demonstrate what solid phases are present in such slags and then try to introduce the unreferenced data on the eutectic temperature of some binary systems. The written text needs considerable re-writing and restructuring, including separation of results and discussion sections. In summary it is recommended that the publication of this manuscript in Met & Mat Tran to be declined. Reviewer #2(Points In Favor): 1. The paper concerns a very relevant industrial problem with possible application to other steelmaking reactors than CAS-OB, for example the results could be applied to steel ladles. 2. The effect of combined additives is very interesting since it has not been as intensively studied as the additions of only one additive. The addition of Li2O appears also to be quite original. Reviewer #2(Points Detracting): 1. I think that the text MUST be corrected by a reader whose native language is English. 2. The melting temperature measurement gives an information that one would like to be connected to more conventional measurements such as liquidus or solidus temperatures or temperatures at which the liquid fraction has such or such value. 3. Is there any available information that shows that the findings can be connected to the industrial problem? Reviewer #2(Importance of Contribution): See "points in favor": very relevant industrial problems, interesting results on joined additions and on Li2O effect. Reviewer #2(Remarks to the Author): 1. Acronyms such as steel grades or apparatus numbers should be avoided or explained. 2. It should be nice to connect the results to pre-existing data such as the Al2O3-CaO-CaF2 phase diagram. At least some trends observed in the results could be substantiated by these data. 3. The explanation given for the effect of combined CaO-CaF2 additions is not clear. An eutectic temperature is mentioned for the Al2O3-CaO-CaF2 system: which phases are concerned? Reference? |
