Abstract: In order to measure the useful life and cutting performance of PCBN cutting-tools under the condition of continuous dry turning, this paper selects two different types of PCBN cutting-tool to do turning experiment of hardened steel at different cutting speeds. Using the Taylor formula, this paper calculates the coefficient m and A in the formula, before the cutting-tool reach the blunt standard (that is to say, the average abrasion of the cutting-tool flank is 0.3mm), it predicts the useful life of the two types of cutting-tool theoretically, based on which estimates the cutting performance of the two types of cutting-tool. And then, this paper measure the useful lifetime through above-mentioned measure of the two types of cutting-tool which do not reach the blunt standard. Finally, the theoretical prediction is experimentally verified. The result shows that, even though there is a certain degree of error between the useful lifetime of cutting-tool predicted by Taylor formula theoretically and the one obtained by experiments, the calculated theoretically result can show the performance of cutting-tool basically, and can predict the performance degree of low-speed-cutting cutting-tools theoretically.

Abstract: In order to quickly and accurately measure the continuous PCBN cutting tools in dry turning and cutting tool life under the conditions, the choice of two different kinds of PCBN tools in different cutting speeds, the turning of hardened steel test.
