【Share】Break away from dreary yesterday

This is my first year in USTC as a graduate student which is also my most fruitful year since my college days. During my four years as an undergraduate, seldom did I devote myself to study. I always skipped classes and didn't hand in my homework. Even if sitting in the classroom quietly, it is very likely my mind was drifting towards other things which was irrelevant to class. Things became worse in my sophomore year when I bought a computer. From then on I used to click-click-click and took sleep very late at night. Until the last minute before the final exam would I force myself to study for several days. Most of my time was wasted on computer games and surfing the Internet. Although I tried several times to change myself and concentrated on my study, I just couldn't calm myself down to focus on study and eventually failed. As a result, I became some pessimistic about myself and lost interest in almost everything, including reading in my leisure time, watching NBA games and bicycling around. However, things changed last semester when I arrived at USTC to start my new life as a graduate student. West campus is beautiful and suitable to walking around. Students here are diligent and willing to deal with complicated mathematical equations or physical models. Gradually I learned to calm down my mind and concentrated on my study. For the first time in the past few years did I experience the joy of taking classes, just like my middle-school days. Now I could take three classes consecutively and peacefully even if it did not interest me at all, which is hard to imagine just two or three years ago. Also, I'm not so worried about myself now and become enthusiastic about my life. I would thank my girlfriend and roommates for bringing me happiness and help me quiet my unsettled mind. At last I strongly recommend that, for those who can't concentrate on their study, it is a good idea to transfer to another university or institute. Maybe new campus, new classmates or just new "smell" of the place would help change yourself. |
