I've never been the best when it comes to making time in my life for those closest to me; I've always had more time to give a stranger in need than I did my family and friends. This, admittedly, is not the best way to manage your time and is certainly not how you can live your life. If you can't make time for the ones you love, what does that say about you? Here are a few ideas if you, like me, struggle to make time for others: 1) Keep plans -- Someone is giving an amazing lecture on some topic you're passionate about, but you've made dinner plans with friends. Go to dinner with your friends! You can always contact the lecturer about that burning topic later, you can't make up for lost time with friends. 2) When you have time, share it -- If you've just finished a 10hour stint of studying or just got off the wards and have the evening free, spend it with friends or a significant other. They'll appreciate that you've come out of your cave briefly to be with them. 3) Emailing, Calling, Texting -- If you're thinking about a friend or family member or that special someone and wishing you could spend time with them but are just too busy right now, email, call, or text saying you miss them or hope to see them soon. It's a small gesture, but you'd be surprised how far a small gesture of love can go. 4) Involve them in what you do -- this bit of advice can vary depending on what your friends/family/significant other do, but will be greatly appreciated no matter how you make it happen. If there's a social event with classmates, invite your significant other. If there's a community service project with your school, invite interested friends. If there is an amazing lecture you want to attend, invite those close to you--not only will you get to hear about that topic you're passionate about, your loved ones will get to learn about something you care about and by proxy feel like they know you a little better. That's all the advice I can offer for now. I'm still figuring it out as I go and hope to share more pearls as I find them. ------------------------ How do you make time for loved ones? Whatever good or bad occured to me, who first came into my mind were my family and friends~ I've got used to that~ You may need to "force" yourself to spend time with them,but as you do it more and more frequently, it will become a habit!~ Wish you and your family and friends a happy time~~  |

I call my best friend now and then, tell her some things happened to me, tell her my ideas my feelings, tell her I miss her. or send her messages. anyhow, phone and internet are the most convenient way to communicate with those who are far away from us. |
