The evolution chatacteristics of pH value and chemical components of the fog along with enviromental and meteorological factors changed during the processes of fogging were anlysised by combining the fog sample data in the two fogging processes of XX city from Jan. 1st to 10th, 2001 and automatic weather station data over the same period.
The results showed that enviromental factors exerted an influence on the sources of pollutants which chenged the proportion of acid-base composition, thereby influenced the pH value of the fog; The average pH value of the fog in the two fogging processes was 6.53 in which the numbers of samples that have a lower pH value than 5.6 (acid rain standard) accounted for 45.1%. All of these samples (pH<5.6) were from the first fogging process.
The results of correlation analysis between ions indicated that chloride ion in the samples of the two fogging processes mainly comed from local pollutants.
Combined with back-trajectories mode anlysis results, it was further manifested that occurrence of radiation fog was mostly influenced by local continental air mass. It would be developped into advection fog by the affect of Yangtze River steam in the south. And its ion concentration would be greatly increased under the influence of marine air mass brought by the northeast wind and pollutants control in the neighbouring industrial areas.
