maybe because we think differently from foreigners. I once had a foreign teacher in high school. She is very pretty and lively, we could happily chat with her, but if we want to "learn" English, maybe she couldn't explain so clearly as Chinese teachers do...

every one has his or her own personalities, I agree with you that every individual should find a more suitable way for him or her, which will make their gains double with half effort.

I prefer foreign teacher. its intresting, you can communicate with them about sides of life. i have a Canadian teacher before, he is younger than me, we both like movie, so we have amount of topic to get in, but have a problem that is the chinese names of the movies sometimes dont match the english ones easily. Afterwards i always pay more attention on the original english name of the movie.
