【Pure water】French foreign minister resigns

France's Foreign Minister has announced her resignation, yielding to public anger due to her controversial ties to the former Tunisian government, led by ousted President Ben Ali. A furore blew up over disclosures that Michelle Alliot-Marie went on holiday in Tunisia as protests raged there and accepted private plane rides from a Tunisian businessman close to Ben Ali. Alliot-Marie insists that she did nothing wrong to the interests of France and her public service. She had worked as foreign minister for less than 100 days since being appointed last November. Defense Minister Alain Juppe has now taken over as new foreign minister. |
