【Pure water】Independent college entrance exams comes to an end

Independent college entrance exams held by China's top universities this year are coming to an end. Three independent exams by three universities took place on Sunday, while the trial tests held by the majority of institutions have already finished. Zhao Nannan has more. The Central University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Donghua University are conducting tests for potential attendees. These three universities are known for their specialist subjects, so winning the opportunity to study at any of them is tough going. Roughly 10,000 students are knuckling down to take the exams. Wei Lidong, Admission Office Director of Shanghai Uni. of Finance and Economics, said, "We need students with high scores, yet we think students who are interested in their specialities are more important." The three universities are using their own criteria in the recruitment exams. Shanghai University of Finance and Economics are only focusing on English and maths in their exams, which is rarely seen in the independent tests. A university official said they're trying to find a different approach to the independent college entrance exam system. The joint independent exams are regarded as the latest attempt to improve China's widely-criticized college recruitment system. The independent exam focuses more on testing students' creativity, imagination and learning skills. It's also tougher than the national test. Students will learn of their fate in April when the results are released. |
