【Pure water】Protesters in Bahrain demand removal of monarchy

Young protesters camped-out in Bahrain's capital on Monday , called for the ouster of the entire ruling monarchy. This is part of sweeping demands from the week-long unrest in the small, but strategically important Gulf nation. The call put forward the most uncompromising demands of protesters to date Most of the protesters have only sought a weakening of the powers of the monarchy But a manifesto on Monday, from a group calling itself "Youth of February 14th", apparently seeks to raise the stakes of demands, ahead of possible talks between the opposition and the monarchy. Tensions are still high in Bahrain, following seesaw battles that saw riot police open fire on protesters trying to reclaim Pearl Square last week. At least eight people have been killed and hundreds injured in the clashes. |
