目：ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books." 字数：510 用时：0:45:00 日期：2006-7-30 总体反对 第一段让步 第二三段写书的优点好处 总结 Since people can learn as much by watching television as they can reading books, is reading books becoming no longer important as it once was? The author claims so, however I can not agree with this viewpoint as a whole, even if television do have great influence in learning and have gradually changed our way of learning. Since the arrival of 21st century, we have to confront the information explosion. What we use most in the past, such as learning, have been changed to those convenient and interactive ways of learning, such as Television. For supporting example most of us tend to watch the News on Television instead of reading newspapers. Television not only provides us with vivid pictures, also provide us with sound, all of which enable us to gain information faster than just reading line-by-line on newspapers. According to a recent study by the famous English educator: Hopkins, the human minds tend to learn much faster when they are taught with life-like videos that are of great attraction to the learners than those who are given the traditional way of learning through books. The effect of learning through television is so impressive that the world's educators spare no effect to apply video technology to the every kind of educations. Even if the television does have impressive teaching effects, not everything can be developed in the right way as we have expected. It is the same when human creates the Nuclear power to find a better alternative power supply at first, which laterly servers as Nuclear weapons that are the greatest threat to the world. Since the development of television, no matter younger or older, become addicted to television programs. Often do we see a lot of young students wearing thick glasses, most of these myopias are caused by watching cartoons, TV series and so on, instead of learning’s purpose. Because of the temptation of vivid pictures, more and more students are not reluctant to read the literal stories such as Anderson’s fairy story, and are crazy with television programs. The television create a lot of idles who just take television as an entertainment tool. Further more, reading books sometimes is more effective than watching television. Books are condensed knowledge, compared to Television. It means that once you have to remember a list of math formulas, it is more convenient to remember just a paper of books than watching several minutes’ videos. Since the videos teachings can not be played back, once you are absent of mind, you can hardly catch the pace of learning by Television. However, it is very convenient to roll back the page you have missed. In addition, books which can be carried in your pocket are more accessible than television that is large and power-driven. Thus, reading books nowadays are still a good way of learning. To sum up, reading books and watching television both have their pros and cons. Even if television become more and more important in the information society we have to face, reading books is still a good compensation for the defects of television and play an important role in teaching.
