In 1997, IA injection of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and endovascular meth-
ods for mechanical clot lysis (angioplasty, clot perturbation with a microwire, and snare retrieval) were added to this regimen. Use of the current thrombolytic agent, reteplase (1–4 U), began in 1999. Since 2001, combination treatments have been used.
