While I contend that disobedience can serve little purpose in certain circumstance, I would fundamentally agree with the speaker' statement. To illustrate my point of view, I will present the analysis in detail as follow. To begin with, one reason for my basic agreement with the speaker's claim is that people in the society challenge authority will benefit to that society. Generally, authorities are broadly accepted for their ample experience which is proved to be practical in most circumstance. Authorities do not mean they never make mistake nevertheless. After all, authorities still are human beings, their theory and advice come from their experience, include their own ratiocination, therefore they could not always be right. On the other hand, many people question authority show people in that society has ability to think and reason independently, and also mean that the society could contain various minds, therefore create more possibility to build up the welfare of that society. In other word, many people are dare and able to question authority would enhance the well-being society. In addition, another reason why I concur with the speaker's statement is that competing authority would result in breakthrough in a society. For instance, Newton's classical physical mechanism was lasting nearly 300 year without doubt after he had found it. In the beginning of 20th century nevertheless, some new discovery could not explained by Newton's theory. In this time, Einstein and Bole challenge Newton's theory and then establish the new theory: The Theory of Relativity and The Quantum Mechanism, which could be called the breakthrough revolution in physics, through their independent and critical thinking. Let us see another example, on the contrary, a young man as cooperator of Tomas Edison found a new way to improve Edison's telegraph technology. Edison nevertheless despise the young man's invention, and many people followed Edison, so the result is the significant invention was delayed for a long time to be issued. At time, if many people dare to question authority we could enjoy the advanced technology earlier. In this sense, following authority would retard advancement of society. Therefore, question authority may result in a breakthrough and thereby enhance our society. Admittedly, question authority is better for our society, but that dose not mean people challenging any form authority all time would be better also. For example, the law is very important for a society stable. Imagine, if people do not obey the laws instead of doing anything they want, the society would be in chaos even panic. Thereby people question authority any time in any circumstance does not benefit society. In sum, from what have been discussed above, I fundamentally agree the speaker's statement that competing authority would be better off to our society, only except some special cases. |
