4)研究背景:炭材料制备, 生物质热解,材料表征,表面化学
5)仪器操作经验: 热解,气氛电炉,气液相吸附分析(UV-Vis, BET比表面, FTIR远红外, 表面电性能, SEM/TEM, 统计分析).

This project will be sponsored by USDA for " developing value added carbon materials from carbon rich residues of process, which is designed to produce biorenewable energy or/and biofuel". (details in below) I am PI for this project and suggest focus on activated carbon or other carbon adsorbents. But I am also open for other advanced carbon materials. The Postdoc position will start after Jan 2011.

1) Evaluate the application of industrial standard methods, chemical catalytic activation using conventional catalysts (ZnCl2, NaOH or KOH, H3PO4) and physical activation using steam or carbon dioxide, to effectively activate the pyrolytic generated biochar starting material.

2) Explore the application of the following new innovative activation processes for the purpose of effectively activating the pyrolytic generated biochar starting material: supercritical water (SCW) activation, MW activation in the presence of conventional catalysts or steam or carbon dioxide, other chemical or physical treatments and surface modification methods.

3) Quantify the thermodynamic and reaction kinetics for those activation technologies that have the most optimistic commercialization potential. This will provide the necessary information to be able scale up for commercialization.


May I please you send me your consideration about your future research in my group, so what will be your  stage targets in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. What kind equipment/instruments/methods will be used?
You could find some instruments available in my lab or other SDSU's labs. in the equipments list in below.

One micropore analyzer (BET surface with N2 and vapor adsorption)

One NIR for water, protein, oil content assay

One sieve and shaker system for particles sizing and separation

One dry milling (roller mill, hammer mill, pan mill) lab.

One Tube furnace (300~1200 Celsius) with automatic control and gas protection functions
will be used to carry out physical or chemical activation.
One muffle furnace equipped with air tight internal steel reactor for biomass pyrolysis is
being used to produce biochar and biooil for US Army Jet fuel project. The biochar will be
supplied as feed materials for this proposed project.
One microwave pyrolysis reactor system (100~700 Celsius) is being used to produce biochar
and biooil for US Army Jet fuel project. The biochar will be supplied as feed materials for
this proposed project.
One ultraconic wave system (immersion ultrasonic horns 50 to 500 W/cm2) will be used for
ultrasonic activation or treatment of carbon materials.
One ozone system will be used for ozone activation or treatment of carbon materials.
Two hydrothermal reactors systems (0 ~ 40 MPa) will be used to carry out supercritical
water activation of biochar.
One Shimadzu UV-Vis 2450 spectrophotometer will be used for methylene and iodine
adsorption assay.
One Angilent GC system with CO2 and O2 assay columns and a H2 flame detector will be
upgraded. The GC will be used to monitor reaction kinetics and thermodynamic properties
of activation processes.
One differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) will be used to detect thermal stability, surface
volatile groups or components of volatiles in biochar and activated carbon samples.
Two filtration systems (5~300 psi and 200~1500 psi) and one Biorad Maximizer FPLC (fast
flow chromatography can run at 80 ml/min 6.6 Mpa) will be used for evaluate downstream
application of activated carbon developed in this projects.
Two Angilent HPLCs will be used to analyze adsorption ability of activated carbons
prepared in this proposed project.
In Principle investigators’ laboratory also has one centrifuge machine, three air convection
ovens, one pilot single screw extruder, one fluorometer, several balances and one solvent
evaporation system.
On campus of South Dakota State University (laboratories of Chemistry and Electric
Engineering)
X-Ray diffractometer, XRD will be used to analyze ash contents and compositions, and
carbon crystal structure in biochar and activated carbon samples.
Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be used to characterize surface properties and
exposed pore structure of carbon materials developed in this proposed project.
Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) will be used to characterize surface groups
of carbon materials developed in this proposed project.
100 ~ 400 MHz variable-temperature solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) will be
used to obtain a closer look at the adsorption sites on carbon material after activation (when
this information is necessary)
The North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory (USDA)
Rotap shaker with standard sieving screens will be used to measure particles size distribution
and fractionate carbon materials into different fractions with specified particle size.

我发了根本没理。
当然可能人家看不上我,不过我联系其他比他学校,实力强的老师都电面过我,我只能说他的要求不是一般的高。
如果真的要求高,看不起俺,总的回一下吧,至少素质比大多数老师差。

你现在搞定学校了没有?我最近才在申请,准备去德国那边,不想走csc
