¡¾Original¡¿Brickwall are there ...
|

It is most likely that you won't know the name "Randy Pausch", but he is already world famous ... So said Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch delivered his final lecture to 400 students, faculty and friends on Wednesday October 3, 2007, after diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Randy's lecture, which you can view or read online in its entirety, will most likely move you to tears. And hopefully inspire you to embrace your own brick walls, whether in your research, or in your life. You can simplely type in "brick walls " in google.hk, you'll find the lecture ... His most famous wisdom saying is : " Brick walls are there for a reason. They let us prove how badly we want things." ![]() I first heard this saying from one of my teacher(idol), and he strongly suggest me to read through or at least have a look at the lecture ... However the sentense didn't bring any thinking, and didn't find the meaning till now ... What's your thinking, please let me know ... ![]() [ Last edited by Super_J on 2010-11-24 at 19:36 ] |

I heard this guy a long time ago, yet unfortunately till now I havn't heard his speech. Here I would like to put forward my own understanding on this saying. "Brick walls are there for a reason". I guess in the write's mind the only reason to be existence as a brick wall is to be broken down or say overcomed. So maybe you will ask why bother to do that? Probably so hard. In the writer's opinion, just to show how badly we want some thing that can be available only if we firstly overcome the walls, which block the way we are heading on. So break it down and then get what we really want in our lives. [ Last edited by robiwang on 2010-11-24 at 20:29 ] |

Good. Welcome to EU where so many countries could be your options. PS: One more year, not one year more. You can say one more, but can not say "one sth more". Or you could say "stay for another year". Also, why not just say "try to find" which I think is more appropriate and the meaning is already strong enough. Improving your English sense. ![]() [ Last edited by robiwang on 2010-11-24 at 22:53 ] |
